HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Thunderstorms could bring dangerous conditions to much of north Alabama through Friday night, with heavy rain and severe weather threats lingering into Saturday. Strong winds, lightning, and localized flooding may disrupt travel and outdoor plans across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, storms remain possible this afternoon in northeast Alabama, expanding into northwest counties Friday evening. The risk of severe weather is considered low, but any storms that do develop may turn strong with damaging wind gusts and brief heavy downpours.
Madison, Jackson, and DeKalb counties are among the areas most at risk for severe storms late Friday, while rainfall is expected to continue into Saturday morning across Huntsville and surrounding communities. Roadways such as I-565 and U.S. 72 could see slick conditions during the morning commute.
Residents are advised to remain weather aware through the weekend. Secure outdoor items, avoid travel during storms, and move indoors if lightning is nearby. Emergency officials caution that flash flooding may occur in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.
The storm threat is expected to diminish late Saturday, with drier weather returning Sunday. Additional updates will be issued if conditions worsen.
