HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – A line of strong storms is expected to rumble across northern Alabama and southern middle Tennessee tonight, bringing the threat of damaging winds, hail, and locally heavy downpours. The most active window runs from 9 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Saturday, raising concerns for overnight power outages and dangerous driving conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, storms will move from northwest to southeast, first reaching Florence and Russellville around 9 p.m. before sweeping into Huntsville between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Areas farther east, including Fort Payne and Stevenson, face the strongest impacts between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m.
The main hazard is damaging wind gusts capable of downing trees and power lines, though isolated hail and pockets of heavy rainfall are also possible. With storms arriving during sleeping hours, residents are urged to keep phones charged and ensure multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
Drivers should avoid late-night travel if possible, as downed limbs and ponding on roads may create unexpected hazards.
Warnings remain possible through early Saturday, and residents should be prepared for additional advisories if storms intensify.
