Huntsville, Alabama – Rain chances will increase to 30 to 50 percent Wednesday afternoon across north Alabama, with higher probabilities of 60 to 90 percent expected Thursday, potentially slowing travel along Interstate 565 and Interstate 65.
According to the US National Weather Service in Huntsville, scattered showers will develop later today as clouds thicken across the Tennessee Valley. Afternoon highs are forecast between 59 and 62 degrees, with overnight lows dipping into the upper 40s to low 50s.
Rain coverage is expected to expand Thursday, when widespread showers become likely and a few rumbles of thunder are possible. High temperatures Thursday are projected between 63 and 67 degrees, with lows falling into the low to mid-40s by early Friday.
Motorists traveling along I-565 in Huntsville, I-65 near Decatur and U.S. Highway 72 toward Florence and Scottsboro should prepare for wet pavement and reduced visibility, particularly during peak commute hours Thursday.
Forecasters indicate conditions will improve by Friday as drier air moves into the region. Sunshine is expected to return, with highs climbing into the mid to upper 60s and cooler overnight temperatures in the upper 30s to low 40s.
While severe weather is not anticipated at this time, isolated thunder could briefly enhance rainfall rates Thursday.
Commuters, students and delivery drivers may experience the greatest impacts during Thursday’s morning and afternoon travel periods.
