Huntsville, Alabama – Cold conditions are expected to persist across the Huntsville area through the weekend and into next week, with overnight lows in the 20s and wind chill values dropping into the teens and single digits, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville.

After a brief warmup on Friday, colder air will settle back into north Alabama. Overnight temperatures are forecast to fall into the lower to mid-20s most nights, while daytime highs will generally range from the upper 30s to low 40s through early next week.

Forecasters say wind chills will be a primary concern, especially during the overnight and early morning hours. Wind chill values are expected to dip into the teens most nights, with single-digit wind chills possible at times through the middle of next week.

Low to medium rain chances return Friday evening into Friday night, though precipitation amounts are expected to be light. There is also a low chance for a few flurries Friday night, but the National Weather Service says no snow accumulation is expected.

The extended forecast shows continued cold weather through at least Tuesday, with highs struggling to reach the upper 30s to low 40s and lows remaining in the 20s. These temperatures are well below average for mid-January.

The National Weather Service advises residents to dress in warm layers, bring pets indoors overnight, and check on friends, family, and neighbors who may be sensitive to cold conditions. Space heaters should be used with caution and kept away from flammable materials.

Morning commuters, outdoor workers, and students in the Huntsville area should be prepared for very cold starts to the day through the upcoming week.
