HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – A cold front sweeping into North Alabama Sunday will spark scattered thunderstorms before opening the door to a refreshing stretch of fall-like weather. Highs that have reached into the 90s will fall to the 70s by midweek, with overnight lows dipping into the 50s.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, rain chances Sunday sit around 20 to 40 percent, mainly in the afternoon and evening. Storms could bring brief downpours, gusty winds, and lightning before clearing skies set the stage for cooler, drier air.

Huntsville and the Tennessee Valley will see a sharp change beginning Monday night as the front passes. Cities such as Decatur, Florence, and Scottsboro can expect lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s, dropping further into the 50s Tuesday night. Afternoon highs will hold in the mid to upper 70s, a break from the recent humid heat.

Drivers should use caution Sunday evening as wet roads and storms could slow travel along I-65 and U.S. 72. Once the cooler air settles in, residents are advised to prepare for crisp mornings, especially in rural and elevated areas.

Cooler conditions will dominate much of the week, though warmer afternoons near 80 degrees return by Thursday. Additional weather updates may follow if storm chances increase late week.
