HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Thunderstorms are moving into northern Alabama this morning as a cold front pushes in from the northwest, bringing heavy rainfall, lightning, and the threat of 50 mph wind gusts. The strongest storms are expected before midday, creating hazardous conditions for drivers and anyone outdoors.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, storm chances remain between 50% and 70% across north Alabama and into southern middle Tennessee through the late morning. The front is expected to deliver widespread rain along with a few strong cells capable of producing damaging winds.
Residents in Huntsville, Florence, and Decatur could see the heaviest activity before noon, with rain tapering off into the afternoon. Lightning and erratic winds remain the biggest hazards, with localized flooding possible on low-lying roads and in urban areas. Emergency officials advise limiting non-essential travel until the storms pass and keeping phones charged in case of power outages.
The threat should ease by early afternoon as the front pushes east, though lingering showers may persist. Additional updates and advisories could be issued if storms intensify.
