Huntsville, Alabama – Cold temperatures across the Huntsville area early this week will give way to a steady warming trend heading into the New Year, according to the National Weather Service.
Early Tuesday morning conditions at Huntsville International Airport showed temperatures near 27°F, with wind chills around 16°F under overcast skies. Northwest winds of 5 to 12 mph contributed to the cold feel, particularly during early-morning commute hours.
The National Weather Service reports that Tuesday will be sunny and cold, with highs reaching near 39°F. Clear skies Tuesday night will allow temperatures to drop again, with lows around 24°F, marking another freezing night for north Alabama.
A noticeable warmup begins on Wednesday, when sunny skies are expected to push highs to around 50°F. Overnight lows Wednesday night will moderate to near 29°F, limiting widespread freezing impacts compared to earlier in the week.
By New Year’s Day, temperatures are forecast to climb to around 55°F, with sunny skies and light winds. This marks nearly a 30-degree increase from early-week morning lows. The warming trend continues into Friday, when highs may reach 56°F.
Moisture increases late week, bringing a 20 to 50 percent chance of showers Friday, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. A 90 percent chance of rain is forecast Friday night, though no severe weather is anticipated at this time. Overnight lows Friday night are expected to remain mild near 49°F.
No winter weather advisories, watches, or warnings are currently in effect for the Huntsville area. The National Weather Service notes that hazardous weather is unlikely outside of the early-week cold.
Commuters, students, and outdoor workers should prepare for freezing mornings through Wednesday, followed by significantly warmer and wetter conditions as the New Year approaches.
