Huntsville, Alabama – Rain is expected to spread northeastward across the Tennessee Valley this afternoon, with locally heavy rainfall and a few embedded storms possible this evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, rain will overspread the region from southwest to northeast during the afternoon hours. Conditions may worsen this evening as rainfall becomes heavier at times, and isolated thunderstorms could develop within the broader rain area.

Forecast temperatures today are expected to range from 56 to 60 degrees across much of north Alabama. Tonight, temperatures are forecast to fall into the mid to upper 40s as rain and storms gradually taper off.

The National Weather Service notes that while storms are possible, the primary concern is periods of locally heavy rainfall, which could lead to ponding on roads and reduced visibility during heavier downpours. No widespread severe weather was indicated in the update.

Rain is expected to linger into early Saturday before ending, with dry conditions returning Saturday night. The extended forecast shows cooler temperatures Sunday, with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s, followed by a warming trend beginning Monday.

Highs are expected to climb back into the upper 50s to low 60s early next week, with dry weather continuing through at least Tuesday.

The timing may affect afternoon and evening commuters, as the heaviest rain is expected during peak travel hours.
