Albany, NY – Autumn officially begins today at 2:19 p.m. EDT, and the National Weather Service says the season’s arrival in eastern New York and western New England will bring several chances for much-needed rainfall this week.

According to the National Weather Service Albany office, rain chances increase late Monday into Tuesday, with precipitation probabilities reaching as high as 75% in some areas including Cobleskill, Gloversville, and Herkimer. Another system is forecast to impact the region from Thursday into Friday, likely bringing widespread showers.

The 7-day forecast shows daily high temperatures generally in the upper 60s to mid-70s, with lows ranging from the upper 40s to upper 50s. Despite frequent rain chances, temperatures are expected to run slightly above normal for late September.

Some lingering showers may persist into next weekend, though rain coverage is forecast to decrease by Sunday and Monday. Areas such as Albany, Poughkeepsie, and Pittsfield could see several wet days before conditions ease.

The National Weather Service notes the rainfall could be beneficial following drier late-summer conditions. Commuters and travelers should prepare for potentially slower drives midweek and late week as systems move through.
