New York, NY – Residents in Orange and Putnam counties are waking up to freezing conditions Tuesday morning as the National Weather Service in New York maintains a Freeze Warning through 9 a.m. EDT.

According to forecasters, subfreezing temperatures around 30 to 31 degrees are expected during the early morning hours, creating hazardous conditions for crops and sensitive vegetation.

The Hudson Valley region saw clear skies overnight, allowing heat to escape quickly and sending temperatures to near or below freezing before sunrise. The NWS urges residents to cover plants, disconnect garden hoses, and protect outdoor plumbing to avoid damage.

This latest cold snap marks one of the season’s first widespread freezes across the lower Hudson Valley. Daytime temperatures are forecast to rebound into the 50s later Tuesday, but another round of cold weather could return later in the week.

Residents should continue monitoring local forecasts for updated frost or freeze advisories.
