Newburgh, NY – Slippery roads could develop within hours Tuesday morning as snow and a light glaze of ice spread across parts of the Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey, threatening the evening commute on key corridors like Interstate 84 and Route 23.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Winter Weather Advisory runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday for Orange County in New York and Western Passaic County in New Jersey. Forecasters expect up to 1 inch of snow, along with a light glaze to a few hundredths of an inch of ice. Higher elevations and areas north and west of I-84 could see ice totals nearing one-tenth of an inch.

That thin coating is enough to freeze untreated bridges and overpasses, especially through the late afternoon. Drivers on I-84, Route 6 and local parkways should anticipate reduced traction and longer stopping distances. In Passaic County, elevated roadways along Route 23 and county roads may turn slick first.

Officials urge motorists to slow down, leave extra space between vehicles and check 511NJ or New York State 511 for live road updates before heading out. Conditions should improve after 6 p.m., but additional advisories could follow if colder air lingers into Tuesday night.
