PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. — Residents in Putnam County should prepare for a hard freeze late Monday night as temperatures dip to near 32 degrees through Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a Freeze Warning effective from midnight until 9 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service, sub-freezing temperatures could cause frost and freeze conditions capable of killing crops, flowers, and other sensitive vegetation. The warning spans the entirety of Putnam County, including Cold Spring, Carmel, and Brewster.
Residents are urged to cover outdoor plants, bring in potted vegetation, and disconnect garden hoses to prevent damage. Those with livestock or outdoor pets should ensure adequate shelter from the cold. The chill marks one of the first significant cold snaps of the season for the Hudson Valley, signaling a quick transition toward winter conditions.
Temperatures are expected to rebound slightly by midweek, but overnight lows will remain near freezing through early Wednesday. More advisories could follow if cold air lingers.
Warnings remain in effect through 9 a.m. Tuesday.
