Newburgh, New York – Heavy snow and wind gusts up to 45 mph will reduce visibility below a quarter mile across Orange and Putnam counties by late Sunday night, threatening to make travel nearly impossible through 6 p.m. Monday. Snowfall will intensify overnight, quickly covering I-84, I-87 and Route 6.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect for both counties until 6 p.m. Monday. An additional 14 to 22 inches of snow is expected, with the heaviest bands arriving late Sunday night into early Monday morning.
Across the Hudson Valley, blowing and drifting snow will clog secondary roads from Newburgh to Carmel and along the Taconic State Parkway. Strong winds combined with heavy accumulation may down tree limbs and cause scattered power outages, especially in elevated terrain.
The most severe impacts will strike during the Monday morning commute and linger into the evening drive. Officials urge residents to avoid non-essential travel, charge electronic devices and keep flashlights and blankets ready in case of power loss. Check New York State DOT services for updated road conditions and closures.
Snow and wind will gradually ease Monday afternoon, but blowing snow may continue to lower visibility into the evening hours. The Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Monday, and additional advisories could follow if conditions intensify overnight.
