Travelers across southeast Texas should stay alert Thursday as roads could flood quickly from up to 3 inches of rain, especially along I-45 and in low-lying parts of Houston.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, a Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 PM CDT Thursday for Harris County, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston Island, and over two dozen other counties. Thunderstorms could continue training across the region, triggering flash flooding in poor drainage areas.

By Friday, storms will taper off, but not for long. Another wave of rain is likely to develop Saturday afternoon and evening, bringing another round of pop-up thunderstorms for Father’s Day weekend. Residents from Sugar Land to Conroe should expect brief downpours and occasional lightning.

Motorists should avoid flooded roadways, especially during peak afternoon traffic hours today. Urban areas like Midtown Houston and Pasadena are at high risk for water ponding. Be prepared to delay travel and check real-time road conditions.

Rain chances dip slightly Friday night, giving way to partial sunshine Saturday morning. However, another 50% chance of thunderstorms returns Saturday and Sunday, especially during the afternoon hours.

Storms remain in the picture into early next week, with another strong chance of rain Monday afternoon.
