Houston, Texas – Triple-digit heat indices are set to give way to stormier conditions this weekend, as tropical moisture fuels rising rain chances across Southeast Texas. By Sunday, some of the strongest storms could drop locally heavy rain, creating the risk of flooding in low-lying spots.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, Friday’s highs will remain slightly above average, with Houston near 94°F, College Station pushing 97°F, and Galveston topping out at 89°F. Heat and humidity linger through Friday night before a weak front brings in scattered showers Saturday.

Storm coverage becomes more widespread Sunday, when cities like Bay City, Brenham, and Conroe see rain chances near 60%. Galveston and League City also face a 50–60% likelihood of storms, with localized flooding possible where downpours stall. Motorists are urged to avoid flood-prone roads and keep alternate travel routes in mind.

While trends suggest less widespread heavy rainfall, the atmosphere remains primed for isolated flooding if storms repeatedly track over vulnerable areas. Officials encourage residents to build flexibility into weekend plans and remain weather aware.

Rain and storm chances remain elevated into early next week, with additional advisories possible.
