Texas – Morning clouds race over Houston’s skyline as gusts near 25 mph send flags snapping and commuters bracing for a damp chill. The December breeze feels raw, but a noticeable warm-up and rainy midweek pattern are on the way.
According to the National Weather Service in Houston, today starts cool and breezy, with highs near 54°F. Winds gradually ease through the afternoon, but clouds linger, giving the city a muted gray look heading into Tuesday night.
By Wednesday afternoon, a moisture surge from the Gulf will bring scattered showers, increasing in coverage through the evening. Thunderstorms are possible late Wednesday into Thursday, with rain chances near 90% and locally gusty winds. Some areas could see a quick half-inch to one inch of rain, especially north and west of the metro.
Thursday will stay humid and breezy, with highs around 60°F, before a gradual cool-down late week. By Friday, drier air returns with highs in the low 50s and partly sunny skies — just in time for early weekend plans.
Residents should secure outdoor decorations ahead of gusty winds and plan extra travel time midweek when showers may slow traffic along I-45 and Beltway 8. After all, it’s December in Texas — and the weather rarely stays still for long.
