Houston, Texas – Dry heat across Southeast Texas is pushing wildfire risk higher through Thursday, with the National Weather Service urging residents to use extra caution. Temperatures will stay in the upper 80s to mid-90s, keeping conditions hot and dry.

According to the National Weather Service Houston/Galveston office, the greatest danger lies inland near and west of the Brazos Valley Wednesday and Thursday. Risks extend into the I-45 corridor and Piney Woods region, including northern parts of the Houston metro, before easing late in the week. Along and south of I-10, coastal communities face moderate fire potential until rain chances increase this weekend.

Officials recommend avoiding outdoor burning, securing tow chains, and never tossing lit cigarettes, as even small sparks could spread quickly. Motorists are urged not to park on tall grass, which can ignite under hot vehicle exhaust.

By Friday, rain chances rise first along Galveston and Matagorda beaches, with scattered showers possible through the weekend. While relief is expected near the coast, much of inland Texas will remain dry into early next week.
