Houston, Texas – Gusty northerly winds are impacting the Houston area this morning following a cold front, prompting a Wind Advisory and creating hazardous conditions for drivers and mariners across Southeast Texas.

According to the National Weather Service Houston/Galveston, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. to noon Sunday for portions of the region, including Jackson, Wharton, and Matagorda counties, as well as the Bolivar Peninsula, Galveston Island, and the Brazoria Islands. Sustained north winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected, with peak gusts reaching 30 to 35 mph.

These winds may make driving difficult for high-profile vehicles, particularly on bridges and exposed roadways. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects that could be blown around during stronger gusts.

In addition to land-based impacts, a Small Craft Advisory remains in effect through noon Sunday for Galveston Bay, Matagorda Bay, and the Matagorda Shipping Channel. Nearshore seas are forecast at 4 to 7 feet, with 6 to 9 feet offshore, while north winds of 15 to 25 knots with gusts up to 30 knots may produce rough bay waters and building seas. Inexperienced mariners and operators of smaller vessels are urged to avoid navigating during the advisory period.

Despite the wind, conditions will remain dry. High temperatures today will reach the upper 50s to low 60s, with winds gradually diminishing this afternoon. Clear skies tonight will allow temperatures to fall into the upper 30s to mid-40s, with breezy conditions lingering near the coast.

Sunday is expected to bring sunny skies and seasonal temperatures, with highs near 60 degrees and lighter northerly winds around 10 mph.

This alert is especially relevant for morning commuters, coastal workers, and marine operations across the Houston metro area.
