Houston, Texas – Spotty thunderstorms and rising humidity are making for a muggy start to the week across the Houston area, with afternoon rain chances persisting through Wednesday and highs climbing into the mid-90s.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, isolated storms are expected to fire up between 1 and 5 p.m. Sunday and again on Monday afternoon, with a 30 to 50 percent chance of showers. Rainfall totals are expected to stay light, though brief downpours and lightning could impact outdoor plans or cause minor street flooding in low-lying areas. Winds will remain light out of the northeast at 5 mph.

While overnight conditions will stay mostly clear with lows in the upper 70s, daytime heat is intensifying. Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday will reach 93–94°F, with a heat index near 100°F by mid-afternoon. Sunny skies may briefly return before another round of storms threatens on Wednesday afternoon.

Residents in Houston, Pasadena, and Sugar Land should prepare for brief disruptions and avoid flooded intersections during heavy downpours. Keep mobile devices charged and check for updates during afternoon hours when storms are most likely to develop.

Storm chances taper slightly by Thursday, but high humidity and above-normal temps are expected to persist into next weekend.
