Houston, TX – Residents across Southeast Texas are urged to prepare for a stormy weekend as strong to severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall move through the region late Friday night through early Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, two main waves of storms are expected — one late Friday night into Saturday morning, and another Saturday evening into early Sunday. These systems could bring damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes, with localized street flooding possible.
Forecasters have placed much of the Houston metro, Galveston, College Station, and surrounding areas under a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) for severe weather and Slight Risk (level 2 of 4) for excessive rainfall. Rainfall totals are projected to reach 2 to 4 inches, with localized areas possibly receiving up to 4 to 6 inches.
Potential impacts include ponding of water on roadways, rises in bayous and streams, and flash flooding in low-lying areas. Marine hazards are also expected across Gulf waters, with elevated winds and seas continuing through Saturday.
The NWS urges residents to stay weather-aware, monitor forecasts, and have multiple ways to receive alerts as conditions may change rapidly.
