Houston, Texas — Southeast Texas is entering a sharp temperature swing, with cool nights continuing and another cold front expected to bring near-freezing conditions this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service Houston–Galveston, overnight lows tonight will range from 35 to 45 degrees north of Interstate 10, 40 to 45 degrees along the I-10 corridor, and mid-40s to near 50 degrees closer to the coast. Skies are expected to remain mostly clear, allowing temperatures to cool efficiently.
Friday will feel noticeably warmer, with afternoon highs climbing into the low to mid-70s, marking a quick rebound from recent cool conditions. However, forecasters say the warm-up will be short-lived.
Another cold front is expected to move through late Friday night into Saturday, bringing seasonably cold air back to the region. Saturday night into Sunday morning, temperatures are forecast to drop into the low to mid-30s across parts of the Houston metro, with some locations north and west of Houston potentially falling below freezing.
The National Weather Service cautioned that the largest impacts will occur overnight and during early morning hours, when exposed pipes, sensitive plants, and pets could be affected if temperatures dip to or below 32 degrees.
Dry conditions are expected through the weekend, but residents are encouraged to prepare for cold mornings, especially those with outdoor plumbing or early travel plans.
This forecast is especially relevant for early-morning commuters, outdoor workers, and homeowners, as rapid temperature changes may catch some off guard.
