Houston, TX – Residents across the Houston metro area and surrounding portions of southeast Texas should prepare for freezing temperatures late Sunday night into Monday morning as a Freeze Warning takes effect across the region.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Houston/Galveston and Austin/San Antonio, freezing temperatures between 27 and 32 degrees are expected from midnight through 9 a.m. CST Monday. The cold snap could lead to frost and freeze conditions capable of damaging sensitive vegetation, crops, and unprotected outdoor plumbing.
The Freeze Warning includes Harris County, including Houston, Pasadena, Baytown, and The Woodlands, as well as Montgomery, Fort Bend, Brazos, Washington, Grimes, Waller, Austin, Colorado, Liberty, Chambers, Wharton, Brazoria, Fayette, De Witt, and Lavaca counties. Cities impacted include Sugar Land, Conroe, College Station, Brenham, Rosenberg, Pearland, Alvin, Angleton, Wharton, and La Grange.
In Chambers County, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday, with north winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 35 mph. Officials warn that gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects and cause isolated power outages, while also increasing the risk of wind chill overnight.
Forecasters say confidence is highest for sub-freezing temperatures in northern portions of the warned counties, though freezing conditions are possible throughout the region. Even brief periods below freezing can cause damage to plants and exposed pipes.
Residents are urged to take precautions by covering tender plants, bringing pets indoors, insulating outdoor pipes, and allowing indoor faucets to drip slowly overnight. Those using space heaters should follow safety guidelines and never use grills or generators indoors.
Temperatures are expected to gradually rise later Monday morning, but lingering cold conditions could persist into the early afternoon.
