Houston, Texas – A chilly night is expected across southeast Texas following a recent cold front, but the risk of a widespread freeze remains low for most of the region, according to the National Weather Service Houston–Galveston.

In a social media update posted Saturday evening, the National Weather Service said overnight temperatures will fall into the 30s and lower 40s across much of southeast Texas. Despite the cold air, odds of reaching freezing are below 10% for most locations, meaning a freeze is unlikely for the majority of residents.

The exception is across the far northern portion of the forecast area, including parts of Madison and Houston counties, where probabilities of reaching 32 degrees or colder increase into the 45 to 60 percent range. Even in those areas, forecasters note that any freezing temperatures would likely be brief and occur just before dawn, with sunrise helping temperatures rebound quickly above freezing.

Coastal areas are expected to remain milder, with overnight lows generally staying above 40 degrees, further reducing freeze concerns. The National Weather Service emphasized that while it will feel cold, most of southeast Texas will avoid damaging freeze conditions.

Residents in northern counties are encouraged to keep an eye on local temperatures overnight and take basic cold-weather precautions, especially for sensitive plants, pets, and people without adequate heating. For most of the region, no significant cold-related impacts are expected beyond a chilly start to Sunday morning.
