Houston, Texas – Mariners and coastal operators around Galveston Bay are facing hazardous conditions overnight as a Low Water Advisory takes effect, while cooler temperatures spread across the Houston metro and nearby roadways early Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service office in Houston/Galveston, negative tide levels are expected during each low tide cycle through Thursday midday. The advisory covers Galveston Bay and surrounding inlets, where the lowest water levels will occur around low tide, increasing the risk of vessel grounding and limiting access to shallow channels and docks.

While the advisory is focused on marine impacts, colder air moving in behind a recent front will also affect inland travel. Overnight lows are expected to drop into the mid-30s along the I-10 corridor, with upper 20s possible across parts of the Brazos Valley and Piney Woods. Patchy light freeze conditions may develop north of Houston, including areas near Highway 290 and Highway 6, especially on bridges and elevated roadways.

Daytime conditions Thursday will be calmer and sunny, with highs climbing into the mid-50s to low 60s across Harris, Galveston, and Brazoria counties. Light north to northwest winds will persist along the coast, keeping bay waters suppressed through at least early afternoon.

Boaters are urged to check tide schedules closely and delay departures if possible. Additional marine statements or advisories could be issued if water levels fall lower than expected.
