Texas starts the morning wrapped in low clouds, damp streets, and mild air that feels more like spring than winter. That softness won’t last. Changes stack up quickly as rain gives way to cold air and a growing freeze risk across the Houston area.
According to the National Weather Service in Houston, showers and thunderstorms are likely today, with highs near the upper 60s. Rainfall amounts could reach up to a half inch in spots, leaving roads wet through the day. Patchy fog may also reduce visibility at times, especially during the morning drive.
Conditions stay unsettled tonight and into Thursday, though temperatures remain mild. Highs reach the low 70s Thursday before a colder pattern begins to take shape. Clouds linger, and additional showers are possible by late Thursday night.
Friday signals the transition. Showers become more widespread, and temperatures begin falling steadily through the day. Highs near 70 early will not last. By Friday night, colder air pushes south, dropping temperatures into the 40s and setting the stage for winter impacts.
Saturday brings the bigger concern. Highs struggle into the low 40s, and rain chances increase again. By Saturday night, temperatures dip into the mid-20s. Rain may change to freezing rain, creating slick roads, bridges, and overpasses. Even light ice could cause travel issues and isolated power concerns.
Sunday remains cold. Morning freezing rain may linger before tapering, with highs only near the low 30s. Any moisture left on roads could refreeze quickly, increasing flash-freeze risks into early Monday.
Looking ahead, the 6–10 day outlook keeps Southeast Texas cooler than normal, while precipitation chances remain elevated as winter weather patterns stay active.
