Houston, Texas — Scattered showers and thunderstorms could become severe across Southeast Texas today, bringing the risk of hail, damaging wind gusts, and heavy rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service Houston/Galveston office, a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe storms covers much of the region, including Houston, College Station, Livingston, and Columbus.

Forecasters say a slow-moving cold front pushing in from the northwest will bring widespread showers and thunderstorms as it moves into Southeast Texas and then stalls across the area.

The greatest risk for severe storms is expected Saturday afternoon into Saturday night, when isolated storms may intensify along and ahead of the front.

Primary hazards include damaging wind gusts, large hail, and locally heavy rainfall.

In addition to the severe weather risk, forecasters say scattered to widespread rainfall may continue through Sunday morning, with some areas seeing locally heavy rainfall that could lead to minor urban flooding or small stream flooding.

An excessive rainfall outlook places much of Southeast Texas in a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 4) for flooding today, with a Marginal Risk continuing Sunday.

Officials advise residents to stay weather-aware, check forecasts for updates, and ensure multiple ways to receive warnings as storms develop.

Heavy rain and lightning could also impact weekend travel, outdoor plans, and evening commuters across the Houston metro area and nearby communities.

Residents should avoid driving through flooded roadways and monitor local alerts throughout the day.
