Houston, Texas – Travelers celebrating Memorial Day across Texas should keep an eye on the sky—storms are expected to roll into the Houston area by Monday night, bringing lightning, wind gusts up to 25 mph, and the first of several days of potential weather hazards.

According to the National Weather Service, the holiday will start mostly sunny with highs near 92°F and heat index values soaring past 100°F. But after sunset, showers and thunderstorms are likely across Harris County and surrounding areas, particularly along corridors like I-45 and the Sam Houston Tollway. Southeast winds could intensify with gusts near 25 mph, making road travel slippery and potentially dangerous late Monday night.

By Tuesday afternoon, thunderstorms are expected to redevelop, especially after 1 p.m., with a 60% chance of rainfall. Lightning and heavy downpours could lead to temporary street flooding and slowed commutes. Conditions remain unstable into Tuesday night with continued storm activity and temperatures around 75°F.

Wednesday brings another 60% chance of storms and highs in the upper 80s. The pattern holds through Thursday with storm chances lingering and slight cooling into the upper 80s.
