HOUSTON, Texas – Dangerous heat and scattered storms will continue to press across Houston this week, with the National Weather Service warning of heat index values topping 104 degrees by Monday afternoon. Evening thunderstorms could bring downpours and gusty winds through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Houston, a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected after 1 p.m. Monday, followed by additional rounds of storms Monday night and Tuesday. The storms may cause brief street flooding in low-lying areas and create hazardous travel on I-45, U.S. 59, and the Sam Houston Tollway during evening commutes.
Heat will remain a top concern with highs reaching 96°F Monday through Wednesday. The combination of high humidity and light winds will push the heat index into triple digits. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.
By Wednesday, storm chances increase again, with scattered showers likely into the evening and another 50 percent chance of rain by Thursday. Power outages and tree damage are possible with stronger cells.
Advisories may be extended later this week as the storm pattern holds over Southeast Texas.
