Houston, Texas – Scattered thunderstorms may pop up around Houston today, but oppressive heat and humidity will quickly become the bigger concern as the region bakes through midweek. High temperatures are expected to climb near 100 degrees, with heat indices soaring well into the triple digits.
According to the National Weather Service Houston-Galveston office, today’s storms will be much more isolated than those earlier this weekend. Heat indices above 105°F are likely across much of Southeast Texas starting this afternoon, especially along the I-10 corridor and into the Brazos Valley. Actual high temperatures could reach 98–100°F by Wednesday.
Cities like College Station, Sugar Land, and Huntsville will see heat indices pushing 110°F, while Houston’s urban core could remain in the high 90s even overnight. Rain chances are expected to dip below 20% through midweek before gradually increasing by Friday.
Residents should limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable individuals and pets. With power grids under strain during prolonged heat events, experts recommend charging devices early and setting thermostats a few degrees higher to conserve energy.
The heat wave is expected to intensify through Wednesday, with elevated storm chances returning late in the week. Heat advisories may be issued as conditions worsen.
