Houston, Texas – Near-record heat continues to grip southeast Texas Friday, with heat index values soaring past 100 degrees and little relief expected through Wednesday. In Houston, the heat index is expected to peak at 104°F by mid-afternoon, while Brenham and College Station could feel as hot as 106°F.
According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, temperatures will remain in the mid to upper 90s across the region through early next week, with actual highs near 96°F in places like Conroe and Sugar Land. Overnight lows will stay muggy in the mid to upper 70s, creating little chance for cooling down and increasing the risk of heat-related illness.
Cities across Brazos Valley, Piney Woods, and the Upper Texas Coast—including Huntsville, Liberty, and Bay City—should expect a persistent heat index between 97°F and 103°F through Tuesday. Patchy fog is also possible overnight in parts of Liberty, Columbus, and Houston, reducing early morning visibility.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, hydrate regularly, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Cooling centers may be available in some counties.
This stretch of intense heat is expected to last through midweek. Additional advisories or heat warnings may be issued over the weekend.
