Houston, Texas – Gusty northerly winds prompted a Wind Advisory across the Houston–Galveston region Sunday morning, affecting travel and marine operations along the upper Texas coast.

According to the National Weather Service Houston/Galveston, sustained north winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30–35 mph are expected from 6 a.m. through noon Sunday. The advisory covers Jackson, Wharton, and Matagorda counties, along with the Bolivar Peninsula, Galveston Island, and the Brazoria Islands.

Forecasters said the winds follow the passage of a cold front overnight, bringing drier but blustery conditions to Southeast Texas. Motorists—especially those driving high-profile vehicles—may experience difficult driving conditions on exposed roadways and bridges during peak wind periods. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor objects that could be displaced by strong gusts.

In addition to the land-based advisory, a Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for coastal waters, including Galveston Bay, Matagorda Bay, and the Matagorda Shipping Channel, through noon Sunday. Seas are forecast at 4 to 7 feet near shore and 6 to 9 feet offshore, with north winds of 15 to 25 knots and gusts up to 30 knots, creating hazardous conditions for small vessels. Inexperienced mariners are advised to avoid navigating during the advisory period.

Despite the wind, conditions are expected to remain dry, with seasonal temperatures returning across the region. Highs today are forecast in the upper 50s to mid-60s, with winds gradually diminishing by early afternoon. Clear skies and cooler overnight temperatures are expected to follow.

Commuters, coastal workers, and marine operators should continue monitoring updates from the National Weather Service as conditions evolve.
