GALVESTON, Texas – Drivers and beachgoers along the upper Texas coast should brace for minor coastal flooding through Friday afternoon as high tides push water onto low-lying roads and beach access points. The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for Gulf-facing beaches, including Galveston Island, Bolivar Peninsula, and coastal areas of Brazoria and Matagorda counties, in effect until 1 p.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, water levels are expected to reach between 3.8 and 4 feet above mean lower low water (MLLW) during evening high tides. At around 3.7 feet, water could begin covering Highway 87 at Highway 124 on Bolivar Peninsula and Beach Drive near Blue Water Highway in Surfside. Portions of Highway 6 between I-45 and Hitchcock and low areas along Toddville Road, Red Bluff Road, and Jamaica Beach may also see minor flooding.

Motorists are urged to avoid driving through standing water and allow extra travel time, as some roads could become temporarily impassable. Residents in flood-prone areas should take steps to protect vehicles and property from high water.

Advisories may be extended if elevated tides persist through the weekend.
