Houston, TX – A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect through Sunday morning for the Southeast Texas coastline, where elevated tides and wave runup could cause minor flooding and beach erosion, according to the US National Weather Service Houston–Galveston.

The advisory covers coastal areas from Galveston to Matagorda Bay, with high tides reaching around four feet above mean lower low water. Officials warn that low-lying and vulnerable areas near the immediate coast may experience temporary flooding during each high-tide cycle.

According to the National Weather Service, a high risk of rip currents will also persist along Gulf-facing beaches through Sunday night, creating life-threatening conditions for swimmers. Even experienced swimmers are urged to stay out of the surf as rip currents can sweep people away from shore quickly.

Beachgoers are reminded not to swim against rip currents. If caught, they should swim parallel to the shoreline or float until help arrives.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve by Monday morning, once winds and tides subside.
