Houston, TX – Drivers in Southeast Texas are waking up to dense fog this morning with visibility under ¼ mile, as a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through 8 a.m. CST, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Houston/Galveston.
The fog will lift by mid-morning, leading into another unseasonably warm afternoon with highs in the mid to upper 80s across the Houston metro, College Station, and the coastal plain. However, major changes are on the way tonight as a strong cold front sweeps through the region.
Behind the front, gusty north winds of 30 to 40 mph and much colder, drier air will move in overnight and persist through Sunday. The NWS cautions that fire weather conditions may become elevated to critical, with a Fire Weather Watch and possible Wind Advisory anticipated.
By Sunday night, temperatures will plunge into the 30s and 40s, with wind chills in the 20s and 30s and the potential for a light freeze across portions of the Brazos Valley and Piney Woods. A Freeze Watch may be issued later today.
Residents should secure outdoor items, avoid open burning, and prepare for the colder air arriving by daybreak Sunday.
