Houston County, GA – The Houston County Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday that investigators have identified two students connected to an online threat targeting a local school.

According to Major Chambers with the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were made aware of the threat earlier in the day and immediately coordinated with the School Resource Officer (SRO) and the Houston County Board of Education. The threat, shared on social media, stated an intent to “shoot up the school on Monday.”

Officials confirmed both students have been identified and that their parents have been notified. “They are not to return to school until the parents hear from the administrators,” Major Chambers said in a statement posted to the department’s official Facebook page.

Authorities have not released the students’ names or the specific school involved, but they emphasized that the situation is being handled with caution and that there is no ongoing threat to the public at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office and Board of Education continue to investigate the matter to determine if criminal charges will be filed. Additional security measures may be implemented at area schools as a precaution Monday morning.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
