Perry, GA – The Houston County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday that overcrowding concerns at the county detention center have been resolved, bringing inmate numbers back to a “manageable and safe capacity.”
According to Sheriff Matt Moulton, the jail population has been reduced to 579 inmates following joint efforts between the Sheriff’s Office, local law enforcement partners, the District Attorney’s Office, and the court system.
Sheriff Moulton stated the initiative was launched after growing public concern about capacity limits at the Houston County Detention Center. The Sheriff credited interagency coordination for helping stabilize the population and maintain operational safety standards.
As a reminder, the Sheriff emphasized that individuals with active or Violation of Probation (VOP) warrants, as well as those arrested for new offenses, will continue to be processed according to standard procedures and transported to the detention center as usual.
“We appreciate the continued cooperation of our community and partner agencies as we work to ensure public safety and maintain the integrity of our detention operations,” Moulton said in the statement.
