HOUSTON, Texas – Southeast Texas faces its stormiest day of the week Sunday, with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected from Houston to Galveston and the heaviest rainfall possible near Matagorda Bay. Quick bursts of heavy rain could trigger localized flooding, especially in low-lying and urban areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, rain chances peak through Sunday afternoon before tapering off by evening. Houston carries a 30 to 40% chance of storms, while Palacios and Matagorda Bay have the highest risk, with rain probabilities over 60%. Most areas will see only light to moderate rainfall, but stronger cells could drop heavy downpours in a short time.

The storms will hold temperatures near 90 degrees Sunday, slightly below normal. Afterward, drier weather dominates, and highs climb back into the mid-90s by midweek. College Station is expected to reach 96 degrees Wednesday, while Houston will push into the low 90s.

Drivers are urged to use caution during sudden downpours, especially along I-45, Highway 59, and coastal routes. With higher heat returning, residents should also stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours.

Storm chances diminish overnight, but summer-like heat will hold through the end of the week with only isolated coastal showers.
