Indianapolis, IN – Hoosiers are in for an unusually warm October weekend as temperatures soar well above seasonal averages. The National Weather Service in Indianapolis reports that highs could climb into the middle and upper 80s, with near-record warmth possible on Sunday.
According to the NWS, Saturday will bring mostly sunny skies with highs ranging from 83 to 87 degrees. Sunday is expected to be the warmest day of the stretch, with temperatures reaching between 85 and 89 degrees—about 15 degrees above normal for early October. Clear skies will allow overnight lows to settle between the upper 50s and low 60s.
Monday is forecast to remain warm, though slightly cooler, with partly cloudy conditions and highs between 83 and 86 degrees. Overnight lows will dip into the upper 50s and lower 60s.
Forecasters note that Sunday carries the best chance for near-record high temperatures, as the state experiences a summer-like heat wave deep into fall. The warm spell is expected to break later next week when a cooler air mass moves into the region.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions if spending extended time outdoors, as the unusually high temperatures may catch some off guard for this time of year.
