CHARLESTON, S.C. – Residents across the South Carolina Lowcountry and parts of Southeast Georgia will swelter this afternoon as heat indices climb between 103 and 109 degrees. The highest readings are expected from inland Beaufort County, SC, southward into southeast Georgia, where conditions will feel oppressive during the late afternoon hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, the hottest period will occur between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., with a few isolated spots briefly reaching 108–109 degrees. These extreme readings are not expected to last long enough for a formal Heat Advisory, but forecasters urge caution given the dangerous heat levels.
Communities from Walterboro and Beaufort to Savannah should limit strenuous outdoor activity, drink plenty of water, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles. Heat-related illnesses can occur quickly when heat index values climb above 105 degrees, particularly for those working outside or without adequate cooling.
The hot and humid stretch will continue into midweek, with only modest relief at night. Additional advisories may be issued if humidity and temperatures remain elevated in the coming days.
