Jackson, Ky. – Drivers and residents across eastern Kentucky will contend with sweltering heat and patchy fog this weekend, as afternoon highs push into the mid-90s with heat index values near 100. The combination of sunshine, humidity, and limited breezes will make conditions uncomfortable through Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, fog could reduce visibility in valleys and along rural routes each morning before 9 a.m. through Tuesday. While most of the weekend will stay dry, a 20% chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms develops late Sunday afternoon, followed by more widespread storm chances increasing by midweek.

Communities across Breathitt, Perry, and Wolfe counties can expect clear skies during the day but may face localized travel hazards overnight as fog forms after midnight. With calm winds, stagnant conditions could linger through early morning commutes.

Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Storms arriving by Wednesday could bring brief downpours and lightning, offering temporary relief from the extended heat.

More advisories could be issued if temperatures remain elevated beyond midweek.
