Homewood, IL – A Homewood man is facing multiple charges after a fatal traffic crash that left a teenage passenger dead and several others injured earlier this week.
According to the Homewood Police Department, the crash happened Sunday at approximately 8:17 p.m. near the intersection of 183rd Street and Governors Highway. Authorities said a grey Chevy Equinox was allegedly traveling southbound when it veered off the roadway and struck two vehicles โ a black Buick on Park Avenue and a black Nissan Rogue that were stopped facing westbound.
Police said the driver of the Equinox, identified as 36-year-old Ryan Barbour of Homewood, allegedly fled the scene on foot but was quickly located by officers. He was treated for minor injuries and transported to a local hospital before being taken into custody.
Barbour has since been charged with one count of aggravated DUI resulting in death, one count of reckless homicide with a motor vehicle, speeding over 35 mph, and improper lane usage. Officials said he allegedly remains in custody and was scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Thursday at the Markham Courthouse.
Authorities reported that the driver and passenger of the Buick, both in their 30s, were treated for minor injuries. The 27-year-old driver of the Nissan Rogue was also hospitalized with minor injuries. A 14-year-old passenger in the Rogue was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under review by the departmentโs Criminal Investigations Unit, with assistance from the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team. Police said the driver allegedly played a central role in the chain-reaction crash.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact the Homewood Police Department.
