Homer Glen, IL – A lightning strike sparked a house fire Tuesday morning, prompting a multi-agency emergency response.

According to the Homer Township Fire Protection District, crews were dispatched at 10:05 a.m. to a reported residential fire in the 14000 block of White Oak Court in the Village of Homer Glen.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the roof of a single-family home. Crews entered the residence and located active fire in the attic and within wall spaces. Officials said no occupants were inside the home at the time of the incident.

A neighbor reportedly witnessed a lightning strike hitting the home and quickly called 911 after seeing smoke.

The incident was initially upgraded to a full still alarm and later escalated to a box alarm due to fire conditions inside the structure. Multiple fire agencies assisted at the scene and provided station coverage during the response.

Fire crews remained on site for approximately three hours to extinguish the fire, check for extension, and secure the structure. The home was later boarded up and turned back over to the homeowners for follow-up repairs.

No injuries were reported.

The fire serves as a reminder for residents—especially commuters and those working from home—to remain alert during storms, as lightning-related fires can ignite quickly and spread through concealed spaces.
