Shorewood, IL — A 49-year-old man was arrested Monday morning in Shorewood after allegedly stalking a mother and her teen daughter.
Police responded to a 911 call at 950 Brookforest Avenue around 11:05 a.m. regarding a man making inappropriate comments to the pair outside a business. Officers identified the suspect as Jeffery J. Hergert, who is reportedly homeless but formerly from Merrillville, Indiana.
According to Shorewood Police, Hergert approached the teen and offered her a job while making comments on her appearance. After being repeatedly told to leave, he drove off. Police stopped his vehicle less than a mile away and arrested him after speaking with the victims.
Hergert has an extensive criminal history across several states, including stalking and charges related to minors. Authorities confirmed he has an active warrant in Idaho for eluding police and violating a release order.
Hergert now faces felony stalking charges and is being held at the Will County Adult Detention Facility pending a court hearing under Illinois’ SAFE-T Act guidelines.
