Holmes County, FL – Two suspects have been arrested following an 18-month investigation into a 2024 fentanyl overdose death near Bonifay, according to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office. Officials say the arrests mark the county’s first fentanyl-related manslaughter case.
In March 2024, deputies responded to a residence for an unresponsive woman who was later pronounced deceased by EMS. Investigators determined the victim had recently purchased pills from individuals in Washington County.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, digital evidence revealed communications between the victim and suspects — identified as Jastyn Green and Jamie Ewing — arranging a drug sale in Chipley. The victim allegedly purchased pills later confirmed to contain fentanyl.
The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death as fentanyl toxicity. During interviews, Ewing reportedly admitted to facilitating the drug deal between Green and the victim.
Investigators executed multiple search warrants and subpoenas across Holmes and Washington Counties, with support from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the State Attorney’s Office.
Sheriff John Tate said the arrests send a clear message: “If you deal drugs in Holmes County or our surrounding areas and we can prove you’re responsible for someone’s death, we will prosecute you.”
This marks the first time Holmes County has pursued manslaughter charges linked to fentanyl distribution.
