Ruskin, FL – A routine traffic stop in Ruskin escalated into a significant drug bust Friday evening after a driver allegedly attempted to evade deputies, authorities said.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriffโ€™s Office, the incident happened Friday around 7:15 p.m. along U.S. Highway 41. Deputies reportedly attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly continued for nearly a mile before pulling into a driveway on Ribbon Grass Loop. Authorities said deputies then made contact with the driver, identified as 35-year-old Deontay Voss.

Investigators said a subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly resulted in the seizure of approximately 26 ounces of fentanyl, more than 58 grams of methamphetamine, and additional drug paraphernalia. Officials described the seizure as a major removal of dangerous narcotics from the community.

Sheriff Chad Chronister stated that deputies acted proactively to remove what he described as harmful substances from local streets, adding that individuals who allegedly profit from illegal drugs will be held accountable.

Voss was taken into custody and is facing multiple charges, including trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in amphetamines, possession of drug paraphernalia, and fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement. He is also accused of violating probation in connection to prior alleged offenses, including burglary of an occupied dwelling and felony battery.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing. No additional suspects have been announced at this time.

Residents in the area did not report any injuries related to the incident, and deputies did not indicate any further threat to the public following the arrest.
