Tampa, FL – A group of Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies are being credited with saving a young child’s life after responding to an emergency call on Interstate 275 Thursday evening.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), deputies arrived around 5:20 p.m. on January 24, 2026, after receiving reports of an unresponsive 4-year-old on the highway. When they reached the scene, the child had no pulse and was not breathing.
Deputies immediately began CPR and rescue breathing while waiting for Tampa Fire Rescue to arrive. Body camera footage released by HCSO shows deputies performing lifesaving measures on the roadside as traffic moved past.
Authorities said the child was later transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital and is now listed in stable condition.
“The quick response of our deputies made all the difference,” HCSO said in a statement, praising the team’s decisive actions that helped save the child’s life.
The department did not release the child’s identity but confirmed the incident occurred along I-275 near downtown Tampa.
Community members have flooded the sheriff’s office social media post with praise and gratitude, calling the deputies “heroes” for their fast, compassionate response.
