Tampa, Florida – A pilot walked away uninjured after making an emergency landing late Tuesday night in Hillsborough County.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, a mechanical failure caused the pilot to lose engine power, forcing the small aircraft to land near Weaver Lane and Rockhill Road.
Deputies responded immediately to secure the scene. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue evaluated the pilot on site, and no serious injuries were reported.
Sheriff Chad Chronister said the pilot was able to exit the aircraft without injury, crediting swift coordination between deputies, Tampa International Airport Police and fire rescue crews for ensuring the situation was handled safely.
Photos released by authorities show the aircraft downed in a wooded area with visible damage to the fuselage and wings.
It was not immediately clear what type of aircraft was involved or how many people were onboard at the time of the incident. No additional injuries were reported.
For nearby residents and late-night drivers in the area, emergency vehicles were visible while crews worked to secure the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
