Tampa, FL – A convicted felon accused of shooting his mother’s neighbor in September is now behind bars after being captured by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Task Force this week.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened on September 11, 2025, after an argument between the victim and the suspect’s mother at a home on the 12800 block of Beddington Court in Tampa. Deputies said 41-year-old Jontavis Williams allegedly shot the neighbor once, leaving the victim with serious injuries.
When deputies arrived, they found the victim suffering from a single gunshot wound. The individual survived but required urgent medical care.
Williams was located in Tampa on November 13, 2025, and taken into custody on an outstanding warrant tied to the shooting, authorities said.
According to investigators, Williams faces several charges, including Shooting Into an Occupied Building, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, and Attempted Second-Degree Murder.
Deputies added that Williams was also wanted in a separate Tampa Police Department case involving a firearm offense reported on October 5, 2025. Additional charges from that incident are pending.
Williams is a previously convicted felon with a prior Second-Degree Murder conviction.
“We will not tolerate violent offenders terrorizing our community,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “Thanks to our detectives and law enforcement partners, this dangerous criminal is behind bars.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and future updates will be released by the agency’s Public Affairs Office.
