Hillsborough County, FL – A high school principal has been arrested after authorities say he failed to report a child abuse case involving a student at a daycare operated by Spoto High School.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), detectives with the agency’s Special Victims Section began investigating on May 9, 2025, after a 4-year-old victim was allegedly inappropriately touched by a 16-year-old suspect at the school’s daycare facility.
Officials say the allegations were first reported to Principal Jazrick Haggins, 42, in April. However, Haggins allegedly failed to notify the Department of Children and Families or law enforcement for 14 days, instead conducting his own internal inquiry.
Detectives state that Haggins admitted he was aware of the allegations during this period. His failure to report the suspected abuse led to a warrant for his arrest.
On October 24, 2025, Haggins was located and taken into custody by the Lakeland Police Department with assistance from HCSO. He was later booked into Polk County Jail on charges related to the failure to report child abuse.
The Sheriff’s Office did not immediately release further details about the ongoing investigation.
