Hillsborough County, FL – Behind too many doors, someone is living in fear. That’s the message from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, which has launched a new Domestic Violence Section dedicated to protecting survivors and stopping repeat offenders.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), the section officially began operating on September 29, 2025, in coordination with Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Within its first week, detectives arrested 12 suspects, resulting in 160 charges ranging from battery to stalking and harassment.

Officials say many of those arrested were repeat domestic violence offenders who had allegedly violated no-contact orders—some contacting victims as many as 80 times within days.

Sheriff’s officials said the initiative aims to go beyond raising awareness and focus on direct protection and prevention. “We’re acting. We’re protecting. We’re breaking the cycle,” the office stated.

Residents are encouraged to report signs of abuse and reach out for help through local domestic violence hotlines or shelters.
